An author’s voice is the beginning, not an obstacle to edit around.
B&F Publishing is being built as an author house: a selective environment for writers whose work combines strong individual voice with disciplined storytelling. We are interested in authors who can create characters readers care about, scenes readers can inhabit, and emotional decisions that continue to resonate after the chapter ends.
Our editorial philosophy is developmental rather than homogenizing. The purpose of editing is not to make every B&F novel sound alike. It is to help each author understand what the story is trying to become and then make the execution stronger.
Author Development
B&F’s long-term model reaches earlier than the acquisition stage. Through writing education, craft demonstrations, and mentorship, the company is developing a shared editorial language around immersive cinematic fiction.
That language includes point of view, scene architecture, dialogue, pacing, visual clarity, emotional progression, internal thought, action, and the practical difference between prose and screenplay storytelling.
Writers may encounter B&F first as students of craft rather than as applicants. That is intentional. The goal is to help writers grow into authors and to build trust through useful teaching before there is ever a publishing conversation. Read more on Developing Authors. Submissions remain closed.
