What We Are Building Toward
B&F is developing a selective list of immersive, character-driven fiction with strong emotional architecture and visual clarity. The company is particularly interested in stories that succeed completely as books while also containing the kind of scene construction and dramatic structure that could support audio, visual media, or later screenplay adaptation.
That does not mean every manuscript must be a franchise or a film pitch. The book remains the first test.
What We Look For
- Distinctive characters with independent motivations.
- Emotional stakes that grow through action and consequence.
- A clear authorial voice.
- Immersive settings that shape the story.
- Scenes that change relationships, knowledge, power, or direction.
- Dialogue that reveals character rather than merely transmitting information.
- Long-form narrative control.
- A manuscript that has been professionally prepared and meaningfully revised.
- Authors interested in craft, collaboration, and long-term stewardship of their work.
What Cinematic Potential Means to Us
B&F does not define cinematic potential as car chases, expensive locations, or a screenplay already hidden in the manuscript.
We mean that the story can be understood in scenes; characters make consequential choices; environments are visually coherent; conflict can be dramatized; and the emotional arc can survive if internal narration is later translated into performance and image.
A quiet relationship drama can be cinematic. A romance can be cinematic. A literary work can be cinematic. The question is whether the dramatic life of the story exists beyond explanation.
Future Submission Requirements
When B&F opens a reading period, this page will specify the exact materials requested, manuscript length parameters, genres of interest, sample requirements, file formats, response expectations, and whether the period is open, selective, or invitation-only.
